Matchmaker for Discord / Fortnite
Fortnite tracks three separate ranked ladders — Battle Royale, Zero Build, and the newer 5v5 Ballistic mode — each with its own Bronze-through-Unreal progression, so a squad has to agree on which ranked mode they're even queuing before a Discord LFG post is useful. Battle Royale and Zero Build cap squads at 4, while Ballistic is a full 5v5 team fight, so the same "need one more" message means something different depending on the mode. A generic Fortnite LFG channel has no way to separate a Zero Build duo from a Ballistic team missing its fifth, so posts pile up unanswered.
Matchmaker pairs you with Fortnite players at a comparable rank, using the same tier ladder the game itself uses:
Bronze-through-Unreal ladder. Squads of up to 4.
Same 18-tier ladder, tracked separately from Battle Royale. Squads of up to 4.
Fortnite's 5v5 mode — its own Bronze-through-Unreal ladder, full 5-player team.

No — each mode tracks its own Bronze-through-Unreal ladder independently. Set the rank for whichever mode you're queuing.
4 players, matching Fortnite's own squad cap. Zero Build is the same.
Yes — Ballistic is Fortnite's dedicated 5v5 mode, so its queue supports parties up to 5, one more than BR/Zero Build.
Yes. Fortnite players from separate Discord servers are pooled into one matchmaking queue per mode, so you aren't limited to your own server's member list.
