1. Create the server
- In Discord, click the + (Add a Server) button at the bottom of the server list.
- Choose Create My Own, then For a club or community.
- Name it so people searching for Dead by Daylight find it — for example "Dead by Daylight LFG" plus your region or language — and upload an icon.
- Open Server Settings → Enable Community. This unlocks Onboarding, a rules screen and announcement channels, which the next steps use.
2. Set up Dead by Daylight channels
Create a category for each group below. Voice channels get a user limit that matches a real Dead by Daylight party size, so lobbies don't overfill.
Start Here
| #rules | Rules and post format: SWF or custom, region, platform. |
| #announcements | Server news and community custom nights. |
LFG
| #swf-squads | Survive With Friends squads. |
| #custom-lobbies | Kill Your Friends lobbies; say if you need a killer. |
Community
| #builds-and-perks | Perk builds for survivors and killers. |
Voice
| SWF Squad | Four-survivor squad. User limit: 4 |
| Custom Lobby | Four survivors plus a killer. User limit: 5 |
3. Create rank and role roles
Dead by Daylight matchmaking isn't rank-based, so skip rank roles and use roles that help people find the right group instead.
Lobby Role roles
Region roles
Let members pick their own roles in Server Settings → Onboarding: add one question per role group so new members choose when they join. Onboarding needs at least 7 default channels, 5 of which @everyone can post in — the layout above covers that once you add a general chat channel or two.
4. Permissions and moderation
- Make #rules and #announcements read-only for
@everyone(deny Send Messages). - Turn on slowmode (30–60 seconds) in LFG channels so posts don't get buried.
- Open Server Settings → Safety Setup: set the verification level to at least Medium, and under AutoMod block spam, mention spam and harmful links.
- Create a Moderator role with Manage Messages and Timeout Members, and give it to a few trusted regulars.
Post-game salt between killers and survivors is the classic DbD conflict. Ban posting other players' names to shame them, keep tunnelling and camping arguments in one discussion channel, and use timeouts generously.
5. Add Matchmaker so your server isn't empty
The hardest part of a new LFG server is that nobody is online to play with yet. Matchmaker fixes that: it connects your server to one shared queue with Dead by Daylight players from every other server using the bot.
- Add Matchmaker to your server — it's free.
- Members run
/joingameand pick Dead by Daylight, a mode. Supported modes: Survive With Friends, Custom Lobby (Kill Your Friends). - When a match forms, every player gets a ready-check DM to accept or decline.
- Once everyone accepts, a private voice channel is created automatically for the lobby.
6. Grow your Dead by Daylight server
- Ping the Killer role when a custom lobby needs one — killers are the bottleneck.
- Run community custom nights with themed perk restrictions.
- Pin beginner survivor and killer builds.
- Add PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Switch roles so SWF squads know who can party up.
FAQ
Should a Dead by Daylight Discord have survivor and killer roles?
Yes. Custom lobbies need exactly one killer, so a Killer role you can ping makes them far easier to fill.
Can Matchmaker set up Dead by Daylight custom lobbies?
Yes. Custom Lobby (Kill Your Friends) is supported with a survivor or killer role choice, alongside Survive With Friends.
What region roles should a DbD LFG server use?
NA, EU, ASIA, SA and OCE — the regions Matchmaker uses for Dead by Daylight.
Is Dead by Daylight matchmaking in the bot ranked?
No. It's matched by region and group size, not rank.
