1. Create the server
- In Discord, click the + (Add a Server) button at the bottom of the server list.
- Choose Create My Own, then For a club or community.
- Name it so people searching for CS2 find it — for example "CS2 LFG" plus your region or language — and upload an icon.
- Open Server Settings → Enable Community. This unlocks Onboarding, a rules screen and announcement channels, which the next steps use.
2. Set up CS2 channels
Create a category for each group below. Voice channels get a user limit that matches a real CS2 party size, so lobbies don't overfill.
Start Here
| #rules | Server rules, how to post in LFG, and how to pick rank roles. |
| #announcements | Updates, in-house nights and patch talk. Read-only for members. |
LFG
| #premier-lfg | Stack posts for Premier. Ask people to include their Premier Rating, not their Competitive rank. |
| #competitive-lfg | Stack posts for Competitive, with rank and map preference in the post. |
| #wingman-duos | Finding exactly one duo partner for 2v2 Wingman. |
Community
| #clips | Aces, clutches and highlights — keeps chatter out of the LFG channels. |
Voice
| Premier Stack | Five-player lobby for Premier. User limit: 5 |
| Competitive Stack | Five-player lobby for Competitive. User limit: 5 |
| Wingman Duo | Two-player lobby for Wingman. User limit: 2 |
3. Create rank and role roles
Create one role per CS2 rank tier (Server Settings → Roles). One role per tier is enough — per-division roles make the list too long to scan.
The bot doesn't track in-game roles for CS2, but optional self-assign roles like Entry, AWPer, Support, Lurker and IGL help five-stacks balance themselves.
Let members pick their own roles in Server Settings → Onboarding: add one question per role group so new members choose when they join. Onboarding needs at least 7 default channels, 5 of which @everyone can post in — the layout above covers that once you add a general chat channel or two.
4. Permissions and moderation
- Make #rules and #announcements read-only for
@everyone(deny Send Messages). - Turn on slowmode (30–60 seconds) in LFG channels so posts don't get buried.
- Open Server Settings → Safety Setup: set the verification level to at least Medium, and under AutoMod block spam, mention spam and harmful links.
- Create a Moderator role with Manage Messages and Timeout Members, and give it to a few trusted regulars.
CS2 communities attract skin-trading and gambling-site spam. Add an AutoMod keyword rule for common trade and case-opening phrases, block links in LFG channels, and move any trading talk to its own channel or ban it outright.
5. Add Matchmaker so your server isn't empty
The hardest part of a new LFG server is that nobody is online to play with yet. Matchmaker fixes that: it connects your server to one shared queue with CS2 players from every other server using the bot.
- Add Matchmaker to your server — it's free.
- Members run
/joingameand pick Counter-Strike 2, a mode and their rank. Supported modes: Premier, Competitive, Wingman. - When a match forms, every player gets a ready-check DM to accept or decline.
- Once everyone accepts, a private voice channel is created automatically for the lobby.
6. Grow your CS2 server
- Pin a post template in each LFG channel: rank, mode, region, mic yes/no.
- Run a weekly in-house 10-man night — it gives regulars a reason to come back.
- Keep Premier and Competitive separate: Premier Rating and Competitive rank don't map onto each other.
- Give your most active IGLs a visible role so newer players know who to stack with.
FAQ
Should CS2 rank roles be per division or per tier?
Per tier — Silver, Gold Nova, Master Guardian and so on. One role per division makes the list too long to scan, and players within a tier play at a similar level anyway.
Do I need separate channels for CS2 Premier and Competitive?
Yes. Premier uses a numeric Premier Rating while Competitive uses the Silver-to-Global-Elite ladder, so mixing them in one channel makes rank in posts meaningless.
How do I get players into a brand-new CS2 server?
Add Matchmaker. Members run /joingame and are matched with CS2 players at their rank from every server in the pool, so queues pop before your own server is big.
What voice channel size works for CS2 Wingman?
Two. Wingman is 2v2, so a two-slot voice channel keeps the duo private and stops a third person wandering in.
